Chopin Monument...
Standing on Deansgate in the city centre of Manchester is a bronze statue of Polish composer Chopin. It was unveiled on 16th September 2011 to celebrate his visit to Manchester in 1848 and the 200th anniversary of his birth. Created by Polish sculptor, Robert Sobocinski it is the largest statue of Chopin outside of Poland. The bronze includes material dating from 1831, the year of the November Uprising by Poles against the Russian Empire. According to the monument's plaque, a gravely ill Fryderyk Chopin gave a performance on Monday 28th August 1848. A year later he died at the age of 39.
