Pursuit Of Happyness

A Journal entry from today

Today we hiked to the Kilauea Iki Crater. It was magnificent. This was an example of the ferns I talked about yesterday but on a smaller scale. As we were walking I noticed this ledge that reminded me of the movie UP that I saw right before I left for Hawaii. As we kept walking, I noticed some beautiful flowers. Some of which were native to the island, while others were brought here, and invasive. Before I entered The Crater, I saw one more flower that I couldn't recognize. This crater is also on the Hilo side, so because of all of the rain, I captured it holding in, many droplets. We entered the crater and I looked up upon what I call the Cliffrock. It was beautiful. There was so much mist in the next part, that I could barely keep my camera out without it getting soaked. Luckily it is waterproof. After we went through the crater and saw the spots where hot air was still venting out, we played an oreo game that I didn't get any pictures of. But on the side, while we were playing this game, I saw a little beetle. It was moving in a weird way, so I left it alone, after I picked it up with a stick. We started heading back to the van from the other direction, and we found this little shortcut, that was very narrow, and required actual work to climb, so I put my camera away, and we lunged forth into the fauna covered mountain, and this was a lot of fun. We finally made it back to the top, where we waited for the rest of the group, who lagged behind. When we got back to the campsite, we went on a little hike. I had never gone very far into this hiking area, only a few steps. So we ventured in, and walked around a little. We listened to some music, hung out, and stuff. After a little while of walking, it started to get late. I said that we should head back, but they continued forward, and found the entrance to a highway. I kinda new which way the campsite was, so I chose a direction and we followed it for a while. Everyone was still cheery and in a good mood, because the sun hadn't set yet, so they went in the street, and posed for a snapshot. We eventually got back to the campsite, and we snuck through the woods and rocks, and surprised everyone else from behind. We bunked in for the night, and it poured outside our tent. I will end with a quote from the morning from the kids that slept outside "Dude, it's wet".
