World Orangutan Day

19th August 2013 is the date of the first World Orangutan Day, a day to raise awareness and take action against the ever dwindling numbers of this beautiful, critically endangered animal.

We can donate money, buy sustainable wood, paper and products containing palm oil, lobby our MPs and giant food companies, and generally raise awareness but it takes an awful lot of blind faith to hope that the human race will one day wake up to the terrible damage we are doing to so many aspects of the planet.

Rant over. This a cheaty photo of Amei, an orang at the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset. The highlight of my 40th birthday celebrations in 2010 was a visit to this wonderful place.
