Sundial 13
Today I had the opportunity for really good photos at the NTS gardens and the picturesque River Tweed at Melrose but I knew there was an unusual modern sundial nearby at the hospital. It is painted on ceramic and commemorates a popular young Dutch doctor who suffered from blood cancer then died of pneumonia while training as a GP there. She had introduced an innovative programme for palliative care which was so successful that it has subsequently been introduced elsewhere. The plaque below says
IN MEMORY OF
DR MARLIES EENHUIZEN-GRAHAM
A DOCTOR AT THE B.G.H.
FROM 2001 TO 2003
WHO INTRODUCED THE
PALLIATIVE CARE PATHWAY
24.05.1976 – 05.02.2005
The translation "New light on the horizon" is a tribute to one who must have brought great comfort to many patients.
