Commonman

By Commonman

By Hook or by Crook

This is the old Crook Barn at the rear of the Craven Arms, Appletreewick in Wharfedale. The roof is thatched with heather which in the past was common practice in these parts. The pitch of the roof had to be steep to stop water penetration. Not many of these barns left and many of them are now roofed with corrugated iron.
The Craven Arms is a great place for a break when you're walking in the area as we did today (excellent beer!)
