Journey Through Time

By Sue

Hey, Virginia!

What?

Oh, is that your name?

Yes, it is, but you can call me Ms. Rail, as we are not on a first name basis yet.

Virginia Rail....cool name.

Thank you.

Be on alert Ms. Rail, we saw a coyote a minute ago.

In that case, you can call me Ginny, and thank you! Have a nice day.

Right back at ya..

A trip to Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge today. We did find this nice secluded dried up wetland that had Virgina Rails in there, and small birds. But it was a bit far away for my lens to reach this interesting bird. Well I got it, but it's kind of not that great... We did see, at the far end of our view, a coyote walk past. We just had a story in the news that the Columbia White Tailed Deer that have been introduced into this refuge are having a hard time because coyotes have moved in on the new fawns. So, wildlife people have killed some coyotes to help the deer to survive.

Hope all is well. Ginny and I bid you a good evening.

The Virginia Rail is a small waterbird, of the family Rallidae. Adults are mainly brown, darker on the back and crown, with orange-brown legs. They have long toes, a short tail and a long slim reddish bill
