What a day!
A busy one. Breakfast at the Loveless Cafe before and almighty downpour. Drove from Nashville down the Natchez trace Parkway to get to Tupelo. This is a long, slow and winding journey which is very green and peaceful (7 hours on the road today). You rarely meet other cars and this is amazing considering how long the journey was. Saw several wild turkeys, deer, fawns. Saw tobacco drying in a wooden barn thingy at one of the many stop off points.
Arrived at Tupelo to realise I hadn't written down the address for Elvis' birthplace (the whole point of the trip). Found it after faffage . Went to the museum to over hear a phonecall from some random ringing the staff and trying to get the address/contact number of one of Elvis' relatives. The women who run this place were on the call for over 10 minutes....trying to be helpful but digging a huge hole in the process. Outside the site had a respectful and peaceful aura about it. Lots of single travellers (mainly men over 50) wandering around , deep in their own thoughts.
Arrived in Memphis for a 3 night stay. Hotel is cool but the restaurant attached is something else. Wasn't too hungry so had chicken. It came deep fried with pecans, waffles which were filled with mac and cheese and then the sauces covering it were cheese and then a sweet, thick caramel sauce...the kind you put on ice-cream.......that is all :-\ Now in bed drinking more water than you can shake a stick at......I just want fruit and veg...that is all I need.
