Resting & checking our progress – day 2
My younger sister is one of the most competent and capable people I know, and I told her she was the only person I would have agreed to do this with, since backpacking and camping are not high on my list of favorite activities. I prefer day hikes, or walking around the city. The first thing I ask about a hike is “how far are we going?”- I learned that’s not something she pays attention to – hence we walked several miles more than I’d thought we would both days. Both my sister and brother were very kind and patient with me being slower and less skilled at this sort of thing than they are.
Our second day out was much easier than the first; the weather was dry and sunny and the bridges were solid and easy to cross. We took our time, and stopped along the way to view the scenery and rest. If my feet hadn’t been so sore, and some clothes still damp it would have been perfect. After 8 miles we came to the road where we could catch the bus into the very small town of Stehekin. It was such a joy to walk into the restaurant there for dinner, and to find that there had been a cancellation at the lodge – so instead of a second night camping as we’d planned we got to sleep in a bed. And as my sister said there were “real flush toilets with dry toilet paper!” – true luxury!
I’ve put some of my other photos up on Flickr – you can see them here.
