The Boys are on the Field

Another sign of Fall... the first football tryouts -- that is American football with the pointy ball. If you look carefully you can see the brown ball on the grass in a dip-- not an even field.
The Oxford boys, junior team from the look of them, were out on the field behind the Water Treatment and Sewer Plant. This field flooded all last year and this spring into the summer. The lower part nearest the river has changed. The river has forked through and an island has developed where there once was land.
5 Years ago (I am starting to sound like an old resident since this is my 6th year) the soccer teams (football in the rest of the world) used to practice here. Now they have a very fine, dry, well-mowed field on the other side of the town. They stopped using it.
This filed is dry enough and probably lumpy for first practices. And it is within an easy walking distance from the high school.
Sports is on the brain and it's a beautiful warm afternoon.
