Rob
Rob and I met in the bar at the QUB Chemistry Department formal in early 2005, and bonded over the fact that he was wearing my grandmother's family's tartan on his kilt. Any other 'memories' of that evening come purely from photographs and other people's stories, because I have absolutely no recollection of it! There may have been a drink or two taken, and Rob (who doesn't drink) just loves telling stories about my antics that night to anyone who'll listen!
What I do remember is waking up at about 6am, still fully dressed, in a strange bed, with my friend and classmate Alan sleeping on the floor beside me. Even in my extremely hungover state (and that was one hell of a hangover) I had the presence of mind to set my alarm for 8am so we could make it home in time to shower and be ready for our Inorganic Chemistry tutorial at 10am. Later I realised that I was in Rob's house, though it took me a little while to even remember who he was, and that was the start of a great friendship!
These days we only see each other 3 or 4 times a year, as Rob works as a teacher in London, but I have lots of happy memories of the short time we had together at Queen's. At one stage we were even chasing the same man (I got him!). Recently Rob has found religion, and in a couple of months he will be getting married to a lovely girl called Rachel, who we met for the first time today. I also found out today that he's not a vegetarian anymore. Big life changes! But they never change the friendship :)
