Sailing..... powered by light
With a couple of good friends I have been driving our sailing group along and getting them to develop as sailors all season. The energy expenditure is really starting to pay off and tonight with next to no wind, our wee band still managed to ghost their boats around a triangle without being frustrated.
But the real star last night was the light - incredibly powerful colour and contrasts, full of drama and definition, it stayed with us for over an hour. I think of Caravaggio. Little rainbow patches high up played in the cloud tops and the setting sun shone on the cloud bases. It was a stirring sight and yet something I quite take as given - rather like a fat country boy knows there is always enough good food in the store.
And how can you tell these kids that it doesn't come much better than this? One day, they'll realise......
