Summer outing
This evening I went to the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London with my friend Nic and her mum Dawn. It has become an annual outing, we've been for the past three years.
It was a lovely evening, although I don't think this year's exhibition was as good as the last two.
It is the largest open art exhibition in the world; so anyone can enter art works and they come in all shapes and sizes. Of course you get members of the Academy too and some real masterpieces but a lot of the pieces from less known artists can really be nice gems.
Last year, and this, I really liked Ken Howard's work. But this year the most jaw dropping for me was a piece by Damien Hirst. Although partly because he can afford to make a six foot sculpture out of silver.
After the exhibition Chris met us and we had a great meal. Then a walk back to Waterloo through Trafalgar Square. Nic and I saw the fourth plinth- it wasn't too impressive, just a guy sitting on it using his Netbook.
The statue in this blip is Joshua Reynolds.
