Southern Hawker

I think this is the female Southern Hawker Dragonfly. It's wonderful to see these 'monsters' up close - I just watched this one for a while before trying to photograph it. It was scratching its head with one of legs as if it was working out the solution to a puzzle - or perhaps it was just cleaning - the wing seems to have picked up some cobwebs.

POSTSCRIPT

I later realised this close up of the head of the dragonfly was quite impressive.
