Class Swot meets Naughtiest Girl in School
I'm not really a facebook regular anymore, merely a dillittante* although it is always useful to find out what old friends are up to and have a nosey at their holiday snaps. Some time ago, I reignited contact with some old school friends via social networking and up until now have merely exchanged the odd wave or comment across the internet garden fence. Serendipitous, it seemed, one of my former buddies now lives in Brighton and a chance facebook message led to our four oclock meet at the front of Brighton Pier.
There was a little trepidation as we had not seen each other since about 1989, and Graham wondered if we would recognise each other - however, these were unfounded worries as it's clear we have both changed very little! Settling into, what turned into a lengthy alfresco catch-up, we covered over 20 missed years. It seemed Chris remembered the exact moment that I turned from "Girlie Swot" into "rebellious teen" and we laughed at memories of old teachers and good old academic competition. (I wonder if there are past pupils of ours who will be doing similar in two decades time Chris?)
It was lovely for our respective partners to meet our former pals too; I did wonder what Mark and Graham made of it all. (There's only one further couple who still have to have the meet and greet - Eric and Derek. Perhaps we should schedule that one for next Sunday?!)
It seems like we've both turned out OK Chris - happy and settled with our lives! Here's to meeting again soon! Chris Walsh you remain a legend!
* I was going to use the word "voyeur" here, but Graham tells me this has rather different connotations - and thus I have learned a new word today!
