Marlane's ideas
Sometimes I think Marlane has gone totally bonkers with some of the ideas she comes up with but they have a strange habit of working out to be brilliant.
Yesterday she got 4 metres of free guttering (off Freegle') to put on the wall for next years strawberry plants. Worked out that it is non standard, commercial high flow, size and I couldn't get brackets for it but had some metal brackets in the garage which did the job with a bit of bending.
Used well rotted compost from the bin to fill them up and next week we'll get the new plants, from this years runners, from the allotment to plant in them. Means the strawberries will not lie on the soil and they'll be easier to pick rather than bending down a lot.
Also, the rhubarb has very long stalks so we picked nearly all of it today and used some wood we had to build it up so it doesn't fall over the path. Oh, and talking of paths, got some of our bricks from the allotment and made the little path wider to make it easier to get to the other section of the veg patch.
The veg patch, by the way, is at the side of our house. The council wouldn't sell it to us so we cleared the bushes closest to the house and made it into a garden. It was just wasted space otherwise, a wasteland of bushes and brambles.
