Black Beauty and Buck Together
As I was driving down our lane this afternoon, a couple of young deer ran across the road in front of me! I grabbed my camera and had only this one chance. When I reviewed the shot later, I realized that it was both Black Beauty and Buck together. They are my two favorite deer. It's been a while since I have seen Buck, and I had concluded, sadly, that he must have moved on. The vegetation has grown up so much that it is difficult to see any deer. I edited a bit to try to downplay the greens and emphasize the reds so that the deer would stand out better. I think it helped some.
Tonight I ordered a lens for my new E-P5. I have been using the kit lens (14-42) from the PL5 -- which I need to return if I am going to keep the P5 which I think I am. So far, I am quite pleased, and relieved by hearing from Lady M that there is, indeed, a slight hum when the shutter is depressed half-way.
There aren't too many lenses available -- although if I understand things correctly, Panasonic lenses will work. You can also use Canon or Nikon lenses with an adapter but I believe you lose auto-focus and probably IS as well, which I need badly.
I wasn't sure what to pick. I am so used to the SuperZoom hybrids -- I don't know if I will love a Prime lens like everyone else -- or hate it.
I ended up choosing a 45mm 1.8 Olympus prime lens. It is supposed to be good for macros and for portraits -- two types of photography I am interested in. It will arrive Monday, so we shall see. I also ordered an adapter so that I can try using the couple of Canon lenses I have. None of them are very fast or expensive -- but I want to experiment with them...
I never really intended to get involved with interchangeable lenses again! When I had the Canon 30D, I had several lenses but rarely had the right one with me and ended up using the zoom kit lens a lot of the time. I still have the 30D, btw, and it still works. It doesn't allow Preview through the screen. I think it is so ironic that so many people do not even want that -- instead they want a viewfinder which the 30d does have. I've compared the specs and it is amazing how much the 30d has! "Only" 8mp but otherwise has loads of still useful bells and whistles.
I've been using the Touchscreen shutter on the P5 with mixed results photographically, but it is definitely Very Cool Technology and I LOVE all Cool Technology. So I am happy with the P5. I have not actually set up the Wi-fi -- a project for tomorrow...
