Line

This morning I looked out the lino blocks which I cut last September when we were at Bridge House Art in Ullapool. I was thinking of how I would envisage cutting a new block and which of the two photos I had selected yesterday would be the image I would choose to work with.

I had forgotten that I had cut three blocks last September and after looking at them and the prints I made from them I decided that before I cut a new block that I would like to make more cuts in one of the ones I had. There are sections in the resulting prints that I hope will be lighter in tone.

I looked out a photo of one of the prints made from the block and worked on it in Photoshop Elements to experiment with the sort of cuts I might make and where to place them to best change the tones. I placed the original picture and two new ones made from different ways of simulating new cuts alongside each other in a new image and printed it. I can have that as reference when I make the new cuts in the block. A plan :-)

Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our usual walk before lunch so I could see the F1 qualifying for tomorrow's Belgian Grand Prix on telly. I took yesterday's piece of ceramic with me as the day was quite dull and I wasn't hopeful of landscapes or boat pictures. The other side of the piece has a fine green line and I tried it against three different backgrounds. I have chosen this well scored green fibreglass keel from a dingy. I think it works quite well.
