Lord Leycester Hospital

This was founded for soldiers by Robert Dudley, Queen Elizabeth 1st's favourite. It was never a hospital but used for hospitality and entertainment. It now houses 6 retired soldiers and 2 naval officers in separate flats and is free from rent and other charges. The brethren man the ticket office, look after the gardens and assist in events like weddings that take place in the Great Hall. It dates back to 1571.
