My first black cap spotted
The blackcap is a stocky warbler with a typical, hard, unmusical call. It's song however, is beautiful, rich and full throated.
Very few blackcaps in the UK are resident, most are summer visitors, over-wintering in Spain, Portugal and Western Africa. However there are an increasing number over-wintering in Britain, the increase in numbers wintering here may be a result of milder winters. But also the relative abundance of food in the UK i.e berries and bird feeders.
Tomorrow I'm off to watch a vintage car rally , so hopefully that will be my blip sorted. Hopefully the weather will hold out and it should be a good day.
