"As A Result"...

...Of my yesterday's blip and what a girl has to do, when a girl has to do.

...And I mentioned I too I had to do what I had to do on the farm when possible and when needed- when I was around the same age as the Girl Shearer of my yesterday's blip..that's why I admire what these girls can do, these girls from the land..

...Well, as promised-and I always keep my promises - as I did when I showed you my Pet Fox a while back - here is me, Estelle, aged 19 (so I see on the back of the old photo taken by the Box Brownie camera) - Dagging one of the sheep on the farm..

...This is what they call 'Dagging' - it's just that - the removal of the dried Dags from the back end of the sheep - and was done especially during the humid weather and after fresh feed, as they'd scour, and as well after a rain..on wet wool..the blowflies would become active and occasionally a sheep would be missed...

...It's done to prevent blowfly strike - in this case - the blowfly has already been active - and especially so during that time.. You can see I have a pair of Dagging Shears, still available today, and we still have them hanging in the shed...

...The bottle there - we used to call 'Milk' but it certainly wasn't, it was in those days in the 60's mixed Dieldron - we can't get it now - and it was put onto the back end of the sheep after the Dagging - still holding the sheep - to prevent further blowfly damage to the sheep..Some of you will remember this I'm sure..

...By this time - I had departed from my secretarial duties in the big City due to my health, and had been living in the Outback of Australia as a Governess - where life was different again for me - I was so well and loved the thousands of sheep and watched them being shorn, the wool loaded on huge trucks, and so coming home was quite easy for me during school holidays, and in between different Station jobs - and I am still in touch with the parents of some of the kids I taught..who are grandparents themselves these days..

...And so - here you have it - the Dagging..and many young girls would be quite capable of doing exactly this..and more..
