100+ for Lunch and a cuppa at Ben Rudd's Hut
The Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club's 90th reunion this weekend.
After the usual social get togethers on Friday and Saturday, today over a hundred tramped up Flagstaff to Benn Rudd's Hut. The club is jokingly know as the Tramping and Matrimonial Club as so many members found their spouses through the club ( from the show of hands it could be between 20% and 25%) . Nearly all have stayed together. Is it because trampers see each other in all lights e.g. first thing in the morning or when wet cold and hungry, so you know what you are getting, or, the other theory is anyone who tramps needs a bit of stoicism and can put up with some discomfort and can stick it out??
The club is also doing some great restoration work with native plants and tussocks on the top and side of Flagstaff.
