Beer Tasting - Icelandic Style
Arrived in Reykjavik this morning, and spent the afternoon on a walking tour of the town, being spun some yarns (or should I say sagas). By the late afternoon we were thirsty (it's hard work listening to those sagas), and we found the Micro Bar which advertised Icelandic micro-brewed beer. So obviously it was impossible to prevent Houblon from going in. As there were 4 of us, 3 of whom liked beer, it would have been rude not to have the tasting selection..
The beers were:
Skjalfti - from the Olfisholt Brewery - a lager fermented at the same temperature as real ale. This ended up being my favourite
Kalki Ljos - a Czech pilsner style
Rodull IPA - the clue's in the name - fruity taste?
Gaedingur Pale Ale - a hoppy lager
Gaedingur IPA - this was Houblon's favourite. Far too many Houblons had been used in its production for my taste.
Kalki Dokkur
Gaedingur stout - which I thought tasted of roasted malt, chocolate and licquorice
Stedji Reykja - this was a smoked beer. It tasted very medicinal. The verdict from the 3 of us who were drinking tasting - was "keep smoke away from beer".
All in all, a good selection.
For more details on the day, see Houblon's blip. I can't believe that he forgot to mention the beer tasting...
