Hey Cookie! Wanna close up the ranks?

Don't you just hate when that happens: you're on leave from duty during WWII, visiting the gal you left behind and she suddenly, inexplicably finds you repulsive.

Don't you just love it when her ten year old sister sits you down and tactfully (as tactful as a ten year old can be) breaks the news that your breath is the problem? Don't you love it even more when you try the recommended tooth powder and lo and behold, it works! Your lady love is putty in your hands! Better yet, she doesn't mind being called Cookie and told to...well, I don't really know what "close up the ranks" means.

This fragile, crumbly little newspaper clipping saw the light of day for the first time since 1939, blowing across the alley from the neighbor behind me. She just had some demolition done to prepare for the construction of an addition to her house. When the walls were opened up, it was discovered that during the lean war years, thick stacks of recycled newspaper were sewn into batts and used as exterior wall insulation.

Hope the young cartoon couple with the really fresh breath lived happily ever after.
