Budranga

(...with apologies for the title - Beck's idea!)

A bit of weekend reggae courtesy of the great 'Reggae Classic' compilation by Linton Kwesi Johnson - lots of vintage roots and dread. I particularly like the way a track like 'Street 66' ramps up the tension and paranoia but then cuts out before the actual violence erupts, leaving everything wound up real tight. It's reminiscent of the feeling in the book I've been reading by Dave Haslam, 'Young Hearts Run Free: The Real Story of the 1970s', concentrating on an image of the decade that is less flares and Abba and more terrorism, hooliganism, tribalism, power cuts and racial violence.
