Breaking down the barriers
The girl on the left is my daughter; English speaking with some very basic French. The other two girls are German with only a basic level of English. Their mother is Dutch and we lived together in 1994/1995 and became good friends. Today we met up for the first time in 18 years - it was wonderful to see her and meet each other's families. The language barrier proved tricky and for the first 4 hours our kids ignored each other. It was this task of building a tower of bricks and skittles that finally brought them together. Every time it tumbled they dissolved into fits of giggles....something that needs no translation.
