Flowers in Mordor
The bulk of today's walk was across fields of lava and ash, with black and green hills on either side. There were several mountains who would have qualified for the part of Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings.
We had lunch by a raging glacial torrent, which fortunately had a good sturdy wooden bridge we used to cross. Nobody could have forded that river and lived to tell the tale.
It was pretty dry most of the day, and I took a lot of photos, but in the end this one summed up the day. Lots of black stuff on the ground, and these flowers were just about the only thing growing in the lava and ash.
We camped at Emstrum. Once again we were camped on black crumbly stuff, which, in spite of our best efforts, was making its way into the tent. There should have been good views of the Entujokull (a glacier), but the cloud remained just low enough to hide it for the evening.
