since yesterday's first apple harvest, a spider has anchored the tiny apple tree to a garden toy - he's doing great business there, collecting flies.

Daughter wasn't scared of spiders last year, but is now - I think it's a fear that she might have learned from the other kids - social, not primordial . I can deal with spiders up to a certain size (any bigger and I get pretty hysterical); my mother is completely fearless - no matter how big or hairy - she picks them up in her bare hands, and dispatches them outside.
