NOT "Night-night" Nightshade.
One contender today was
"Solanum dulcamara, also known as bittersweet, bittersweet nightshade, bitter nightshade, blue bindweed, Amara Dulcis,[2] climbing nightshade, fellenwort, felonwood, poisonberry, poisonflower, scarlet berry, snakeberry, trailing bittersweet, trailing nightshade, violet bloom, or woody nightshade,". I spotted it last year, was 90+% sure of what it was, but let it flower, as the Irishman said "To be sure to be sure".
When I pulled "it" up I discovered that
A) There were 2 of it.
B) It/they had a very poor grip on the soil, and put up virtually no argument.
I pulled it up because I was fairly certain that
".....However, the berry is poisonous to humans and livestock, and the berry's attractive and familiar look makes it dangerous for children...."
Second contender slips by with nary a mention, to be seen later.
"And finally Cyril...."came a lecturette on micro-climates. In the front are several Cyclamen, invery tight bud, in the back are quite a few of the same, in full flower and some past their best.
This won on grounds that ... One year, not all that many years ago you couldn't venture into the garden without seeing dozens. This year I can virtually count sightings on one hand. Just like the 4-5 wasps every one seems to be referring to as a "plague".
