Abundance

About 10 years ago I bought my husband this Granny Smith apple tree. The first year it bloomed but no fruit. The second year, the same thing...flowers but no fruit. So I read about hand pollination. I cut a branch from another apple tree we have (Empire variety) and swiped the blossoms of the GS tree with it. That year we got apples.

I don't spray my trees so we also had bugs. Needless to say each year I anticipated harvesting Granny Smith apples but not able to find any worth harvesting due to the bugs. This spring I began ruthlessly pulling off any apples that showed buggy and look at these beauties.

I've already made an apple and pecan spread and right now I have an apple custard dessert baking. The storm that went through this morning knocked down quite a few apples but you can see how heavy the branches are. I normally can walk under the tree with a lot of clearance.
