ephemeralness

Just like the passing storm on the horizon many of the greatest moments and things in life are ephemeral. If something is ephemeral does it mean it is less successful than something more permanent?

Focusing on the subject of gardens, are great gardens only successful if they continue through the time like many great public gardens or are they just as important as that field of wildflowers or that spectacular sunset taht dazzles only for a few days or moments?
