Anyone can be replaced
A common enough phrase of managers the world over. And when it comes to sleeping in Mrs CH found, when she awoke, there is always someone willing to fill the warm spot left on the bed.
The great white hunter was at it again. Disposed of one dead sparrow from the hall and on the way back found a previous mouse. Managed to save another mouse and got all the cats shut in to give the local wildlife a chance.
Unfortunately despite the bird decals on the glass wind break two finches hit it at speed. One twitched its last. The other managed to stand, albeit with its head on the ground and tail in the air. It was so still for so long I thought it had gone too. So I went to clean up and ended with this bird sitting, clinging to my hand. Took ages to get it off and set it down somewhere safe that I could still keep an eye on it.
After a couple of hours when I went to check up on it, it flew into a tree. I could finally relax.
