The Fellsman, steaming through Settle.
Every Wednesday, June to August, a steam train runs on the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway, crossing the world renowned Ribblehead Viaduct. For the last two Wednesdays we’ve made the journey to Ribblehead to photograph the steam train crossing the viaduct, only for the weather to be dull, wet, bleak, misty, and miserable, with low cloud and Pennine drizzle and above all cold, and with the kind of light that makes you wish you’d taken up knitting, not photography. But by early evening on both Wednesdays the sun was shining brilliantly again and the weather had returned to summer. Today was a repeat performance weather wise, and I managed to catch the Fellsman 61994 in the evening sunshine as it steamed at high speed through Settle on its return journey, an hour late maybe, but better late than never.
