Krill carapace

Krill (E. superba), collected from around nest sites in the summer, is stored on ice until the winter. Our selected band of trained scientists lovingly remove the carapace and measure it to try and get an idea of how successful a year it has been for the krill, and hence for every other living thing associated with the oceans (pretty much every single living thing then).
