Beans, beans, beans, more beans and courgettes

After a few days away in Shropshire we returned to find the wigwams dripping with beans, both runners and french. So much so that I picked over 5kg of the things this morning along with half a dozen marrow sized courgettes and a summer squash.

Spent the afternoon doing chores then went for a run before setting off for a meal at the Raja of Kent with friends Wendy and Chris. Now sitting quietly digesting a monumental meal, a bit like a python does after having swallowed its prey.

Just realised the collage looks a bit like a smiley face, if you stretch your imagination further than is sensible. Look at the length of the largest bean - over 16 inches. Very satisfying given the dry weather - we didn't think there would be a very good bean crop this year but preparation in February made all the difference as did Susan's valiant efforts with the hose to dislodge and destroy hoards of blackfly earlier in the year.
