puncturable

"It goes all the way to Bardney" and "it's really nice now they've finished it" and so on, said my parents. It does technically go all the way to Bardney but I unfortunately chose the "summer route" variant which sticks next to the river past Southrey and remains properly finished and smooth and dotted with the Penny-Farthing-shaped locking-stands found between Southrey and Kirkstead but which then diverts away from the river along an earthen farm track before turning back towards Bardney on a track best described as being surfaced with clinkers and large fragments of glass. Despite being Gatorskinned up and only carrying one lock and a camera I started wheeling after a few hundred yards then chickened out and carried for the remaining mile back to tarmac seeing as we were supposed to be setting off for home just after lunchtime and could do without me having to walk twelve miles home with a puncture. I FixMyStreeted the offending section of path to be informed that it's supposed to be like that and that the glass is tumbled before being deposited. It may have been ground rounded when dumped there but there's nothing stopping some of the bigger chunks breaking up further and exposing sharper edges, especially when being subjected to heavy agricultural traffic. Next time I'll take the winter route option, leave the river at Southrey and add a few extra miles by going back via Horsington.
