Cheque

John the town clerk has been tidying up the storeroom and along with much 'interesting' stuff he'd come across these council cheques from the 1950's.
They look so nice and were large, the reason that they're here is that when you paid a cheque to someone when they cashed it at the bank it was returned to the originator of the cheque.
Something that seems a million miles away from online banking...
I also like the handwriting, it's so neat.
It's also interesting to see Bakewell council referred to as 'urban'!
