Get in the hole!
I went to the Welsh Open Golf tournament today at the Celtic Manor, Newport the home of the famous 2010 Ryder Cup tournament. It was my first time to a golf event and I thoroughly enjoyed it, there are not many sports that you can be inches away from the stars of the game.
I decided to follow two of the great characters of the game in Migel Angel Jiminez, in the morning session, and Darren Clarke in the afternoon. Neither star was really on form today, particularly Jiminez who was having a bit of a nightmare, but seeing professional golfers in action was a right treat.
I have to say the tournament was very well organised, with good signage to get you to the car parks along with plenty of stewards to help you along the way. A short walk then to the bus that takes you to the course, and there you are right on the 18th hole by the clubhouse.
You weren’t allowed to take cameras on to the course, hence why the blip is of the programme, although I did see quite a few people taking photos. And thankfully, despite the title of this blip, there were no ignorant shouts of “get in the hole” when you’re teeing off on a par five hole. The crowds were very well behaved, America please note!
