Hawthorn Shieldbug

This little chap is a Hawthorn Shieldbug (Acanthosoma haemorrhoidaie which I found on one of the large hips of a rose in our hedge. We have got Hawthorn in the hedge as well as Rose, Field Maple and Blackthorn and it could feed on any of those. I don't know why it has a name which includes "haemorrhoidaie" - perhaps it is a warning not to eat it?

I love the markings on its back - they remind me of my trainers.
