The tour

Earlier in the year I arranged a special tour for a group of Glasgow-based blippers at the Glasgow Museum Resource Centre. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it on the day but I hear that the trip was enjoyed. Today I finally got to see it for myself.

The Centre houses millions of items that are kept in storage when not on display or being borrowed by other museums. It is quite unusual in opening it's doors to the public (most European museums have similar stores but don't offer this facility). So a good opportunity to peruse some interesting collections.

I joined one of the general tours, which can be a bit hit or miss depending on who else is in the group. I was with a group of pensioners who had quite firm ideas about what they wanted to see, which was interesting, but I would like to return to book one of the longer research tours to pursue my own interests. Still, a very good introductory tour (the image is of our tour leader showing us some of the paintings by The Glasgow Boys that are being restored).
