Splash!
The boys love jumping into water. Having the old jetty nearby has been brilliant - I can see them crabbing and jumping in from my perch at the end of the garden. They tried a wide range of styles - superman jumps, bombs, crabs, karate jumps... just like they did when they were little boys. Lovely.
Today was the day of our annual boat race. Bamboo rods, glue, string, and assorted bits and bobs have been used during the week to build various boats. Each has been tested, found wanting, adapted, improved or in Tom's case, ditched and started again. In fact today he was on version 3 which proved rather swift. I had the most beautiful boat (I think) but it had a habit of capsizing, so I had to ditch my lovely sail and attached a Tesco chilled goods bag as a sail, to capture the wind without capsizing it. By the time of the race it was looking rather good and did manage to win one heat, but overall was beaten by the boys' attempts, with Josh's boat made from a sawed-up broom handle and a bin liner proving the swiftest and the overall winner. Auntie B acted as judge and proved lovely Welsh prizes for us all.
Fish and chips on the jetty for our supper and then the judging of the photography competition. It seems that we all rather generously over compensated for the fact that Auntie B is a fantastic photographer and each gave the other rather high scores, not realising that it skewed the results leaving our best photographer in 4th place! Auntie B was very generous in her praise and sharing her knowledge and we've all learned so much from her.
Off home tomorrow, we are rather sad - it's been a fantastic week.
