Family Tree
Sometimes it seems that parenting is all about learning to let go. Took the kids up to the field so that Susie could practise riding the her bike without stabilisers (another kind of pain altogether - more lower back as I ran like a hunchback holding on to the back of her seat and hollering encouragement). This left the big one to her own devices, which meant scaling a tree and daring herself to balance with no hands. I know she needs the freedom and I know she needs to take risks, but sometimes I can't believe that the 9 year old up the tree used to be a toddler who never left my sight. This blip reminds me of a scene from 'My Neighbour Totoro' - a brilliant film which also touches on growing up and letting go.
