Warehouse Cafe
Tonight we have spent a delightful evening in Allison St,Digbeth, on the first floor of a converted warehouse, at the most amazing vegetarian and vegan restaurant you could hope to find.
I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years. British restaurants used to be the most boring in the world for veggies, either egg-based mashes or an endless variety of potatoes and butter or plain boiled rubbish with sauces on it. Or vegetarian lasagne! However this restaurant, by far the best I have ever been to, makes eating vegetarian food an experience in itself.
It's not the first time we've been here and each time we leave I wonder why it has taken so long to return. Aside from the food there is an ambience which is created in particular by the attentive, warm and enthusiastic staff. * Here I pause to thank in particular: Anthony, Vee and Bex as well as an unnamed but not unappreciated chef who stopped to chat, to ensure we'd had a wonderful meal and to ask our views on possible changes to the already "just perfect" menu.
Wedding and birthday celebrations and honeymoon holidays have all contributed to an eventful summer holiday which is now drawing to a close, and it seemed fitting to end on a high. Following a bottle of champagne, (yes Jilly - mothers' milk - and agreed perhaps a whole bottle - minus Graham's sacramental glass - was a little reckless, but hey - you only live once!) I left the restaurant feeling content and a little tipsy.
The new term fast approaches, but I've a sackful of things to feel thankful for. This restaurant is definitely one of them!
