Malham Cove

Today after a great breakfast, we headed to Malham in the Yorkshire Dales.

The most famous limestone pavement in the UK is that above Malham Cove in the Yorkshire Dales which receives a large number of visitors every year.

We walked from the village of Malham to Janet's Foss, a very spectacular waterfall, and then on to Gordale Scar, a wonderful very steep gorge.  Then we headed up and over to the limestone pavement at Malham Cove.  It is really spectacular, and walking over the huge limestone slabs is quite awesome.  Care has to be taken as there are deep fissures, but the whole experience is quite awe inspiring.  From there we headed down Malham Cove, there are stone steps all the way down, a long way, and at the cove we watched the climbers on the rock faces.

When we reached the village again we had some free time for a drink in one of the coffee shops and pubs before heading back to our hotel and a good dinner.  

A strenuous day, but we all enjoyed it immensely!  The HG and I did this route some years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed being back there.  Worth viewing large!
