Parasitic tendencies
Went out to the north spit of Humboldt Bay with J and was delighted to spot several more Jaegers dive-bombing the Elegant Terns, in hopes of stealing their catch. Until the other day I'd never seen a Jaeger in my life; as seabirds they rarely come close to land. There are three species, which are notoriously difficult to tell apart, especially because they fly and dart about so quickly. I'm just happy to see a new bird behaving in a fascinating (albeit rude) fashion.
