Day of Knowledge or Petrushka

In 1984 in the USSR 1st September - the beginning of school and university in the whole big country - was declared to be Day of Knowledge. I don't know for sure, what they did specially at that day, as pupils had to come to school anyway, but until know you can see banners with congratulations to the day of knowledge in the streets, busses, underground.

This year this great day is Sunday, and even in Russia on Sunday is no school... For us it was the day after the great picnic, the last day of summer, so no-one was keen on going to the next happening. Happily my friend Seva (Vsevolod), a puppet player in a one-man-street-theatre called, that he will perform in the evening in the pedestrian area not far from our house. So we went there to watch his performance. He was there with his two daughters, other acquaintances with kids were there, too, so it was again a very nice company and fun.

The main actor in Seva's theatre is Petrushka, the Russian Punchinello. Then there is his wife Marfa Petrovna, the dragon, the gypsy Morra - he is selling a horse to Petrushka, the Corporal, that is trying to get Petrushka for the army... Seva forgot about the Devil, so no Devil today.

So, here you can see Seva, Petrushka and some of his audience, with Uliana and Nina, my daughters (Emma is somewhere playing...). The kids are shouting "Pe-trush-k-a-a-a-a!!!!"

Sun in the morning, cloudy in the afternoon, rain in the night. Autumn is here.
