Black sand
Yes - we are in Tenerife and as our apartment is very close to the seaside we spent almost all of yesterday at the beach. Although a huge amount of sand has been excavated from the depths of the sea and dumped on the beach there is still a good mixture of black sand in amongst it, certainly enough to turn all sand castles into wonderful medieval fortresses and the incoming tide is dark with the volcanic sub-sand (if there is such a word!). To be honest the colour of the sand and sea did nothing to deter us and we had a great, if exhausting, day! When I was not watching the grandsons playing in the surf and swimming beyond the rolling waves, I walked along the shore line and was astonished at what the sun brings out!!"........... I think I live a very sheltered life in the Scottish hills.
