thumbelina_27 was expecting someone a lot taller, to be honest. She scooted straight past the bar towards a door bearing the toilets sign, covering her face with an affected cough.

scotspine2001 was expecting someone a lot smaller and hoped it wasn't her. But she did resemble her profile image. And she was alone.

In the toilet cubicle thumbelina_27 was panicking. She'd just assumed he was tall. Scots pines are massive! He was going to hate her six foot one in low heels. She looked down at her big feet, her knees jutting forward like a jetty far and away beyond her body from her seat on the lavatory.

scotspine2001 wasn't ready to find out if it was her or not. He headed back to his car immediately and sat in the half dark of the carpark twirling his phone over. He would message her. Tell her he couldn't make it. He'd got stuck in traffic or ... His phone dinged

Message from thumbelina_27: "So sorry. I can't make it. I was getting ready when the phone rang. A friend's in trouble. It's such a shame. I was really looking forward to it. We must try again some other time. Catch you online soon. "

thumbelina_27 briskly left the toilets with the intention of striding past the bar. In her peripheral vision she could see that the figure she had assumed was him had gone. His response had been short and friendly. But no mention of whether he was in the building or not. She turned back, and dropping her backside onto a barstool, ordered a cordial. She felt traumatised and in need of sugar. Had it been him? She looked around. There were other lone men in the room but she knew by their looks it was none of them.
She lowered her eyelids and berated herself. What had she done? They'd been getting on so well for years. Years! And she'd called the whole thing off because of his height. Or her height? Which was it?
She paid for her cordial, downed a third of it and left.

In her car she opened up scotspine2001's reply and smiled fondly at his profile photo.
"I so wanted to meet you."

"You too." he replied instantly. "Would have been a blast. I really hope your friend's okay. There'll be other times."

They started their engines at the same time and drove in convoy out of the carpark.
