Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln Square, Manchester

Manchester workers supported the abolition of slavery, even though it starved (metaphorically) its mills of cotton and (literally) its people. Abraham Lincoln was respectful of this, and wrote to thank the Mancs; the words of his letter can be seen on the base of his statue in the city centre.

[Central Manchester, UK]
