Best Mate

There’s a visible tension
at the mention of her name
so I’m sorry that I mentioned it
and sorry that I came

to join him on this sunny day
for a bus ride into town.
I’d assumed that he was over her
but, quite frankly, if he’s down

and moaning about missing her
and still dwelling on his loss
I can do without his company
'cos I don’t give a toss.
