Hop harvest - Day 1: Bring 'em in

We started hop picking today at 6 o'clock sharp. The blip shows Sylvester, one of our Polish workers, steering the Abreißgerät, a machine that tears down the hop twines and carries them to the stationary picking machine, out of one of our hop yards. It actually was the very first load of the season at the first light of day.

All in all, the first day of the harvest went very well. The weather was absolutely lovely: blue sky and 25°C. The picking machine runs smoothly knock on wood. I only had a minor problem with the oven of the kiln, when I tried to start it in the morning, but that somehow mysteriously solved itself.
